Welcome to the Art 3rd Grade page! We will start the school year by introducing students to the Art Room. We will be going over how the classroom is set up, different procedures that they are expected to do, day to day routines, and how the helper table system works.
Students will start the year with review of Color Theory. I was very happy with the amount of knowledge the 3rd graders had with the Color Wheel last year, lets hope we can keep up the trend! We will discuss the primary, secondary, and the warm & cool colors on the Color Wheel.
If I ran the circus!!!
Its Circus time!!! 3rd Graders will be learning a little about the Artist Alexander Calder, aka Sandy. He was a wonderful inventor and engineer who became famous for his HUGE Mobiles that are all over the world. His first art success though was the creation of a small mechanical Circus. We will be incorporating Circus ideas with Color theory to make our works of Art called "If I Ran the Circus". Stay posted for pictures!!! :D
Circus fun is all done now we are on to DESSERTS! Our Artist inspiration is Wayne Thiebaud, the wonderful oil painter who put desserts on the Pop Art radar! Each and every 3rd grade student will be making an amazing ceramic cupcake of their very own. Please make sure no family members try to eat them after they are brought home I don't want to hear about any chipped teeth :)
Up next is experimenting with Glue and Chalk Pastels to create fun Sunflowers inspired by Van Gogh's Famous painting! Students will start by drawing on their black construction paper flowers and leaves. Then over top of them they have to very carefully line it with glue then we allow that to dry clear. Next class they then can begin coloring in the sections of the sun flower with Chalk Pastels.
Last year student examples! They did Amazing!!!
