Welcome to the 1st Grade Art page! We will start the school year by introducing students to the Art Room. We will be going over how the classroom is set up, different procedures that they are expected to do, day to day routines, and how the helper table system works.
Action Jackson Lines!
We will be starting the year off with learning 9 noises/sounds for the 9 different lines. Students will be using these line types for the next few class. (Straight, wavy, bouncy, curly, smile/frowny, dash, zig-zag, and diagonal). With these 8 lines students will be making colorful watercolor wax resist paintings that are inspired by Jackson Pollack! Color theory will be explored while painting.
Pets in the Garden
Now we will be moving on to a project called Pets in the Garden. We first decide what our absolute favorite animal is and we work on drawing it with detail. Next students get to work with the messy but fun chalk pastels! Hands will look like rainbows by the end of Art Class but thats okay we wash up nicely. After our animals are done we will review those 8 lines again to make plants in our Gardens. Its going to be GREAT! Below are examples of students work from last year!
It is time to learn about the beautiful trees around the school. We will be working on making fabulous trees to display in the school. We first will paint our tree trunks and then we get to go on a "nature hike" around the school grounds. We will be working on leaf rubbings with crayons and then cutting our leaf rubbings out in the shapes of different leaves to put on our class trees. YAAA for NATURE!
Now that we have some AMAZING trees up in the school, all pretty for Fall, we need to create some fun creatures to live in the trees after all our leaves have fallen. We will be learning about the wonderful nocturnal bird, THE OWL! Whoooos ready for some fun :)
Examples from last year :)
